Citrus County Gator Club

Scholarship Program...

Contrary to what everyone might think, there is more to a Gator Club® than just getting together to watch Gator football games and having fun. Gator Clubs® also have a philanthropic responsibility to the University and our local students. The Citrus County Gator Club® Scholarship Program is funded by events that are held by the club and allow us to assist 3 local students who will be enrolling at the University of Florida. Upon the completion of our scholarship fundraising campaign each year, a committee determines how to distribute the local scholarships based upon academic performance or financial need. Each student recipient from the 3 major high schools is awarded a $1,000 Scholarship to the University of Florida from our club. The Citrus County Gator Club® Scholarship application form for the 2012-2013 academic year is now available and can be downloaded here. Deadline for the scholarship application is Friday, April 13, 2012.

2011 Season Kick-Off Party

As Shemir Wiles from the Citrus County Chronicle stated Gators fans were running wild and loose Saturday August 27th at the Citrus County Fairgrounds when the Citrus County Gator Club hosted our Season Kick-Off party. Tailgating was the theme of the event again this year and the club established an atmosphere that you would experience if you attended a Gator game at UF. Our own Mr. Two Bits, Murphey Balkcom, introduced former Gator great Scot Brantley who entertained the crowd with his stories about his life after Gator football. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the crowd did what all Gators do and sang "We are the Boys from Old Florida".

Although lots of fun was had by Gator Fans, the purpose of this event is to raise funding for scholarships for local high school students from Citrus County attending the UF. The Citrus County Gator Club want to thank all who attended for their generous support. This year we had many wonderful sponsors who provided goods and services for this event. People looking for Gator memorabilia had a wonderful selection of items to choose from on the Silent Auction and raffle tables. Special thanks to the Chronicle and Citrus 95 for their publicity of this event. The food, donated by Bob Padgett, Checkers, Beef O'Bradys, Burger King, Joes Family Restaurant & Stumpknockers, consisted of pulled pork and sloppy joes sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw and potato chips. A fantastic Gator Cake was made by the Occasional Cake Company . We thank all the volunteers for their support in making this event so successful.
